Yannis Psycharis

Principal Investigator

Dr. Prof. Yannis Psycharis is a Professor of Regional Economic Analysis in the Department Economic and Regional Development, Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences in Athens. He is the Director of the Academic Regional Development Institute. He was Senior Research Fellow at the LSE (2007-2008). He is the former Director of the Greek National School of Public Administration and Local Government (2010-2012) and is currently President of the Greek section of the European Regional Science Association. His research interests include regional economic policy at national and EU level, local government and public administration. He has written many articles in international scientific journals and has participated in a large number of international research projects. He has been an expert for the Council of Europe and the OECD, member in international experts committees and scientific advisor to Ministries of Interior and Economy and Finance and the Association of Local Government in Greece. He is the Principal Investgator in the reserach project.

Vassilis Tselios

Vassilis Tselios is an Associate Professor of Regional Analysis and Policy at the Department of Economic and Regional Development of Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences. He holds a Diploma and an MSc at the Department of Regional Planning and Development of the University of Thessaly and a PhD at the LondonSchoolofEconomics (LSE). He was an Assistant and Associate Professor of Regional Economics at the University of Thessaly, a Visiting Fulbright Scholar at the University of Chicago Harris School of Public Policy, a Lecturer in Economic Geography at the University of Southampton and at Newcastle University, a Researcher at the LSE and at the University of Groningen, and a Consultant at the World Bank. His research concerns regional development and growth, public and regional policy, economic geography, political decentralisation, socioeconomicinequalities, social welfare, and natural and technological disasters. He has produced a series of academic papers in top scientific journals.

Anastasia Panori

Anastasia Panori is a post-doc researcher. Her main research interests focus on regional economic development, data science, smart cities, and Smart Specialisation Strategies. Since 2012, she has been working as a researcher and has participated in various projects funded by the European Union and the Greek Government. She is an Electrical and Computer Engineer (Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Faculty of Engineering), holds a Master’s Degree in Economics from the University of Macedonia in Thessaloniki, and a PhD in Economic and Regional Development from Panteion University of Athens.

Panayotis Pantazis

PanayotisPantazis is a Planning and Regional Development Engineer (BA, M.Sc.), PhD Student, (Department of Economic and Regional Development, Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences, Athens, Greece) and is a member of the Research Personnel of the Research Unit Environment and Spatial Planning (ESPL) at University of Thessaly. He is a graduate of the Department of Planning and Regional Development of the University of Thessaly (1995) and holds a MSc from the same Department (2011). His scientific interests focus on methods of cartographic representation in the environment of Geographic Information Systems, quantitative methods of analysis with emphasis on spatial statistics and econometrics and the standardization of statistical and geospatial data for digital and printed publications.

Panagiotis Nikolopoulos

Panagiotis Nikolopoulos is a PhD Candidate at the Department of Economic and Regional Development, Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences (Athens, Greece), and holds both a BA and a MSc from the same Department.

He has participated as a research associate in several studies in topics such as local development, metropolitan development and strategic planning. His scientific interests include themes of urban and regional development, with a special focus on the study of metropolitan development.

Eleni Mitsopoulou

Eleni Mitsopoulou is an undergraduate student in Informatics at the Hellenic Open University in Greece.

Previous work experience includes the employment at the Municipality Piraeus at the IT Department and Municipality of Perama at various Administrative Units.

Currently, she has undertaken administrative tasks at the Regional Development Institute. She is also offering administrative support to national and European research projects. She is a member of the technical supportive staff for the Geoinc project.

Thomas Georgiadis

Thomas Georgiadis is a Researcher at the Department of Economic and Regional Development at Panteion University. He is also an adjunct lecturer in the Hellenic Open University. He holds a PhD in economics from Panteion University (Greece) and an MSc in Development Economics from the University of Sussex, (UK). His PhD research focused on poverty analysis of elderly persons in Europe. He is a research assistant of the Greek team in SHARE (Survey on Health, Ageing and Retirement in Europe) since 2005. His current research interests are poverty & inequality; population ageing; labour economics; and gender economics.

Leonidas Doukissas

Leonidas Doukissas is a Post Doctoral Researcher in Regional Analysis at Regional Development Institute of Panteion University. He was a Post – Doctoral scholar of the State Scholarship Foundation (IKY) in Economic Geography (2019-2021). He holds a PhD in spatial analysis from Department of Geography of Harokopio University. He studied Statistics from the Department of Statistics and Insurance Science from University of Piraeus. Moreover, holds an MSc degree in Applied Statistics from the department of Statistics and Insurance Science. His scientific interests mainly focus on spatial statistical analysis, econometric models, social statistics, point pattern analysis and time series forecasting with large datasets in regional science. He has articles in scientific journals and conferences as well as a chapter in a scientific book while at the same time; he has collaborated to several research projects. It has also provided teaching assistance in statistical methods and regional analysis at both undergraduate and postgraduate level in the Department of Economic and Regional Development at Panteion University, Department of Geography of Harokopio University and Hellenic Open University.
